Lovely to be speaking with you in this cooler period of the year as we have now made a shift in daylight! The long dark days of winter can lend themselves to a less physical body, fatigue and hibernation starts to creep in. Keep practicing your Sun Salutations to promote circulation, do some extra twists to strengthen your metabolic fire and include some forward and backward bends to tone the kidneys and urinary bladder which regulate water in the body as well as our emotions. Also draw upon some Yin Yoga (Restorative) to honour the pause before we are called to expand once again! Create a quiet, calm mind and deeply rest by allowing time to stay still to activate the body’s parasympathetic nervou system that’s responsible for rest and digest! Mental tensions soften and the body’s natural healing mechanisms switch on. Try a supine twist placing a blanket between the knees or supported Bridge Pose with a block on its lowest elevation underneath the sacrum. Settle here, it should feel surprisingly comfortable. Enjoy renewal.

The Yoga Loft (my new studio) opened back in October and is in regular use. I now hold a Wednesday morning and evening session in there alongside my daily regular classes as well as one to ones, a monthly yoga nidra (deep sleep) and my alternative holistic therapies. The space will evolve with all of you wonderful yogis and yogini’s sharing it with me!

Exciting news now of my Spring retreat…….

BODHI – Spring Yoga Retreat – April 27-29 2018

The Sanskrit word bodhi translated means the true nature of things. It is traditionally translated into English with the word enlightenment, although its literal meaning is closer to “awakening” – perfect for Springtime too!

I will be hosting a retreat at Brancaster Staithe Harbour on the glorious and beautiful North Norfolk Coast.

An opportunity to dive into the richness of yoga through mindful movement, heart opening practices and a peaceful time for reflection. I bring over twenty six years of teaching experience, exuberance and compassion to my retreats and yoga practices both as a tutor and practitioner.

The weekend is designed to inspire depth, whole heartedness and grace both on your yoga mat and in your life.

This retreat combines asana (postures) to open the body, uplifting pranayama (breathing), guided meditations and activities to lead you into the pulsing intelligence of the heart as spring awakens.

Each day will begin with a sunrise practice to uplift, cleanse and energise to find peace within. The midday and afternoon sessions are a combination of philosophy, asana to open the heart and meditation. The evening sessions are to prepare the body and mind for rest at the end of the day with Yoga Nidra (a form of sleep). There will also be free time over the weekend to deepen your connection to self explore.

The weekend is open and welcome to all. Come and join me in this heartfelt exploration of yoga!

We will be staying at Dial House which was built in the 17th century and converted in 1998 by the National Trust to provide accommodation for schools and groups. Dial House is sited within Brancaster Staithe harbour on the North Norfolk coast. It boasts spectacular views over the surrounding coastline including the Brancaster Manor and Scolt Head National Nature Reserves. North Norfolk has many beautiful Flint villages, historic houses and many stunning beaches along the coast. Inland there is beautiful countryside shaped by Norfolk’s rich agricultural heritage.

Norfolk is one of the most biologically diverse counties in the UK making it a perfect location for yoga and nature lovers whatever time of year!!

The accommodation is dormitory style bedrooms, seven with en-suite and two with reserved shower rooms. (I’m only taking 10 bookings for the weekend) – there will be plenty of space as the centre sleeps up to 48! There is a large upstairs dining room and a well equipped kitchen, a lovely snug room with wood burning stove and balcony overlooking the harbour. South facing garden with seating. Free WiFi. The yoga studio/area will be downstairs.

Retreat Price is £375.00 which includes accommodation, all food will be vegetarian (dietary requirements to be discussed prior to) and 8 yoga sessions. An initial non refundable deposit of £100 to secure a place then the balance around mid March. Places are already being taken and are limited.     Ive finally got to see where we are going for the retreat and it looks really good to me. Can’t wait to be there. You are an amazing yoga teacher and I do feel my life has been enriched because of the classes and the routine I have daily at home. Thank you Susan for sharing such a gift with me and so many others.
