Summer solstice – Creating Your Best Life!

Hi to all you lovely people out there!

This is summer’s height, midsummer, the longest day and shortest night of the earth’s solar year on June 21st 2013! Here we celebrate the completion of the cycle that began at the winter solstice. In the midst of the longest day of the year, we simultaneously begin our return to the dark half of the year. Solstice means “standing of the sun” and we can connect to this great turning point in the earth’s yearly cycle by taking a moment to stop, be still and look back at our own unique journey since the winter solstice. From now to the winter solstice everything in earth will be withdrawing within, we can use this wonderful time to focus on what we wish to nurture and develop in ourselves during the coming months. The summer solstice is a doorway into the second half of the year, energising the paths that lead within. Stand on the threshold and ask yourself what you wish to encourage in your life?

The sun is a star at the centre of the solar system, all the planets evolve around it. At the Summer Solstice the sun is reaching the height of its powers, before the energy shifts and the days begin to gradually shorten again.

When you are practicing expansive poses such as Trikonasana (Triangle) and Virabhadrasana (Warrior), fire up your poses by imagining a radiant sun at your centre. Re-charge and energise your system by picturing this sun brighten and expand as you inhale. As you exhale imagine warm rays of sunlight radiating throughout your body. When you practice Surya Namaskar, the Sun Salute, keep in your mind’s eye an image of the sun. Feel that warm glow!

Try to inspire your best life ever this summer, give yourself the incentive to purposefully design your summer in the way you want it to feel and the way to manifest your dreams into reality. The Summer Solstice is traditionally a time of honouring the fertility of the earth and the sun’s blessing of warmth and light. In Patanjali’s Yoga Sutrus 3.26 it’s written in translation “one learns from the perfect discipline of the sun and solar system”

This is the perfect time to stop and have an honest talk with yourself.

* How has the start of the summer made you thirsty for your greatest happiness?
* What new steps are you taking that are really important to you?
* What are you nurturing that really matters to you?
* What are you doing to stay creative?
* What are you excited about right now?
* Where are you growing?
* What 3 things are you fired up to do this summer?
* What role does imagination have in your life?

Set an intention and let go of anything you are ready to, to make way for new beginnings, meditate to clear the subconscious mind, allowing prosperity, success and happiness to flow freely into your life. Smile from the inside out and enjoy……enjoy the glorious summer!!

I often get asked at the beginning or even end of my classes about a product I use and share amongst you to massage into your skin, on your face and body. It’s called ‘Everything Balm’ by ‘Trilogy’ Built on a foundation of ethical practices, this brand has sustainability at its heart. Founded in New Zealand, it was the first skincare range in the country to achieve a carbon-neutral certification. It also supports a large number of causes and donates all profits made on one of its products to Child’s i Foundation, which is a charity working in Uganda.
